Class Dojo: The Mysterious World of Neurons
This week we watched Episode 4: "The Mysterious World of Neurons" in our mindset series. As a class, we talked more about neurons and how we can grow connections between them. Then we shared ideas of how we have grown connections between our neurons! Some super second graders shared ideas like: try something challenging every day, keep trying, learn new things, talk to others, and work through new things.
Check out the video by following the link above, but try not to watch an episode with your child before we have viewed and discussed it as a class (I know it'll be tempting!)

After viewing the video together, ask your child these questions!
1. What part of the brain did you learn about
today?
2. What did you do today to make connections between your neurons?
3. What is one big challenge you've faced that has helped grow your brain? What’s a new challenge you want to tackle now?

Class Dojo: The Incredible Power of Yet
This week we watched Episode 3: "The Incredible Power of Yet" in our mindset series. As a class, we talked about how when we say "we can't" and give up right away, we stop ourselves from learning and trying. We know from our other Mojo lessons that we can keep working through challenges. If we believe in ourselves and try, we can do anything!
After the video we shared what we would do if we got stuck on something difficult. We also shared about times when we were afraid to ask for help and why (there were some very interesting answers to this question!) Finally we discussed the word "yet," why it is so powerful, and what our current "yet" moment is.

1. Name a time you were afraid to ask for
help. Why were you afraid? (Both parent and
student should pick a moment to share)
2. How can you improve the phrase "I can't do this?”
3. Think of a time where you just didn't get “it.” What could you do in that situation?

Take a Peek...Here's Our Week!
We read to self! We love this time of day. You can see our amazing concentration and stamina!
We did some GoNoodles (brain breaks)! Check out our sweet moves to help us get the wiggles out.
We did an experiment with Monsterstoppers (Gobstoppers)! We made predictions, followed a procedure, observed, and recorded our findings.
Dana Visited!
Dana Hudson visited our class today! We talked about all of the things we use during our morning routine at home (toothbrush, breakfast food, clothes, alarm clock, etc). Then we sorted the items into four categories: store, factory, farm, natural world. We found out that all things begin on a farm or in the natural world!
Then we had so much fun singing the "Butter Song" and making butter! We used heavy cream in a jar and shook it until....yum! It was butter! We practiced proper etiquette ("don't yuck my yum") and tasting techniques (one bite and chew and taste before deciding to eat more or compost).

Class Dojo: The Magic of Mistakes
This week we watched Episode 2: "The Magic of Mistakes" in our mindset series. As a class, we talked about how mistakes can make us smarter. We shared about mistakes we've made and learned from. We also talked about what we would do if we were building a robot and kept "failing" (like Mojo did).

Class Dojo Teaches Us About Mindset: Episode 1
We’re watching a video series about how
students can develop a growth mindset! We'll watch one episode a week in class and use it to share and discuss our thoughts.
This week we watched our first episode, Episode 1: "A Secret About the Brain" and these super scholars were begging to rewatch the video and learn more about the brain!
